I LOVE My New Rachael Ray Cookware!!

1 Jan

For Christmas my wonderful husband bought me some new pots and pans.  I don’t know about you, but I always like to know a little bit about or know someone who has tried  new appliances or cookware.  He bought me  the Rachael Ray Hard Anodized Nonstick 10-piece Cookware set in orange.  I first I was sceptical.

  1. I really would have preferred red.
  2. How well would they work?  I really hadn’t seen/heard any reviews.

Oh, they work and yes, I love them!!  Oh, I grew to love the orange.  🙂  I decided although my kitchen is in red it doesn’t mean everything has to be red.  I did find out later my husband tried really hard to find red ones.  I guess that is a popular color.  Thanks Doug.  That’s one of the many reasons I love you!  🙂

So, what exactly did I get?

  • 1-1/2-quart covered saucepan
  • 3-quart covered saucepan
  • 6-quart covered stockpot
  • 8-inch skillet
  • 10-inch skillet
  • 3-quart/10-inch covered sauté pan  (This pan I love!!)
  • 10 pieces total.

I have already thrown out my old pots and pans and can tell a difference using my new set.  I just made eggs this morning.  In my old pan the eggs would stick if I wasn’t careful.  With my new pans the eggs cooked wonderfully and nothing stuck!  I absolutely love the glass lids.  This is the first time I have had glass lids.  They are awesome!  I also love the handles on the 3- quart sauce pan.   The soft-grip bright orange silicone handles are easy to carry and do not get hot like my old pan did.  I would recommend this set to someone starting out with cooking or as a great gift for a family member.

Extreme Coupon Show on TLC 12/29

21 Dec

The Learning Channel (TLC) will be premiering a new show called “Extreme Couponing” on Wednesday 12/29 at 8pm ET (7pm here in the St Louis Area)!

I will admit, I use coupons on almost every purchase I possibly can.  There have been times where I will not buy something that I might need if I know I have a coupon for it at home.  Over the years of couponing I have become better organized and a better planner.  I know I still have a lot to learn. but I feel the couponing I do (the level of couponing) is right for me and my budget.

I am interested in watching this show.   There are a lot of people who don’t understand couponers!  There seems to be some negative thoughts and ignorance out there in the world about couponers!  Here’s what caught me a little off guard about this show when I was reading the description…

“Profiling 4 shopping addicts who go to extremes to find great deals”

I hope that TLC doesn’t make couponers out to be shopping addicts, hoarders or a bunch of crazy people!  I don’t care if they do!  I love couponing and the money I have saved and helped others to save!

So, what do you think?  Will you be watching?  It happens to fall on the 29th which is my husbands birthday.  I will have to set my DVR so I don’t miss it!!

How many Pounds Will You Gain?

19 Oct

Every year I tend to repeat one bad habbit at Halloween.  Let’s not open the Halloween candy yet!  Yet here I am at noon on a Tuesday and I have already had two  snack size candy pieces.  My husband sure enough has warned me.  HE knows me too well.

“Don’t open those bags yet!”  We don’t need to snack on that!”

I love it!  I tell him, Oh I won’t eat it, yeah right!  I will give a few for Grace and you can have a couple.  Sure enough I open it and sure enough I am the one snacking on it.  I truly am not what you would call a chocolate lover.  I am more of a salt lover.  Take a bag a Ruffles.  Oh dear, stand back.  When they are opened I personally have issues putting the bag down.  I have to laugh.  There was this time my daughter was at a friends and my husband and I were grilling.  We bought a single bag of Ruffles with ridges.  While waiting for you dinner we collectively polished off almost an entire bag of chips.  It was like we were kids.  Half way through I brought out the dip and we both smiled.  It was glorious!!

I hope I will learn some year not to open those huge jumbo bags of Halloween candy that we all buy.  I will be pleased if I can make into November with a 1 -3 pound gain.  Anything more and I may have to cut back on the real good food.  We all know I don’t want to do that!!

Creamy Caesar Pasta

11 Aug

One of my favorite things to do is make up my own recipes.  Many times for dinner I will “throw” together what I think sounds or looks good and I have available in the house.  I love doing it.  I have about a 94% success rate.  I gage my success by several factors:

  • Did my family like it?  (husband & daughter)
  • Did it look and taste good?
  • Did I like it?
  • Did Doug, my husband go back for seconds?  (when he goes back for seconds it is a keeper.)

Tonight I made what I call Creamy Caesar Pasta and I decided to take pics and share the recipe.  I decided I would share the recipe good or bad.  My biggest fear is can I remember what the amounts were of the ingredients.  I am going to list exactly what I used.  Please feel free to make moderations in types or brands of certain items such as pasta.

  • 1 box 13.25 oz Ronzoni Healthy Harvest Fusilli (Could be cut back to 3/4 box.  Plenty of leftovers.)
  • 1  – 1 1/2 lbs hamburger (Not sure on exact size.  I get my hamburger from Sam’s club in bulk than portion it out.  Saves a lot of money.)
  • 1 16 fl. oz bottle Wishbone Creamy Caesar salad dressing
  • 1/2 to 1 cup milk ( I added the milk to make creamy, use at your discretion)
  • 1 green pepper chopped
  • 1 onion
  • black pepper  season to taste
  • garlic salt  season to taste

Brown the meat and boil the noodles.  While meat and noodles are cooking start chopping the pepper and onion and set aside.  I like to cook with my slow cooker.  It is a Hamilton Beach digital Stay and Go and I love it.  It is not necessary to prepare this meal in a clow cooker, but I choose to.  Spray sides of slow cooker.  Drain noodles.  Place hamburger and noodles into slow cooker.  Next poor in the Creamy Caesar Dressing and mix together.  Add chopped green pepper and onion and season with pepper and garlic to taste.  If cooking with slow cooker set on low for 1 -2 hours making sure to stir occasionally.  If cooking on the stove keep on low until ready to serve.

I served this meal with breaded catfish and corn.  The entire meal was delicious.  I was not planning on making the catfish, but my husband wanted it cooked and it sounded delicious.  It turned out wonderful together.  To give you any indication what Doug thought he did go back for seconds and already has his bowl filled up and ready for lunch tomorrow.  That is a thumbs up for me.
